A brief history
Osaka University traces its origins back to 1881 when Tekijuku, a private educational institute, was founded by Ogata Koan. Tekijuku provided Western-style education in various fields, including medicine, science, and humanities. After World War II and the reorganization of the Japanese educational system, Osaka Imperial University was restructured into Osaka University, becoming a national university. The university established the “Center of Medical Innovation and Translational Research” (CoMIT) as part of its efforts to contribute to medical advancements and healthcare solutions.
