A brief history
Established in 1868 as the Polytechnic School Munich, the Technical University of Munich (TUM) has consistently led in innovation. Its modern scientists, like their 19th-century counterparts, remain committed to addressing contemporary societal challenges. As a prominent academic hub for technology and science, TUM has played a pivotal role in Bavaria’s evolution from agriculture to industry and a high-tech hub. Remarkably, it remains the sole state technical university, upholding its legacy.
