A brief history
The University of Paris traces its beginnings to the 12th century when informal schools and centers of learning began to emerge in the city. These schools, often associated with cathedrals and monasteries, attracted scholars and students from across Europe. By the late 12th century, a recognizable structure for education had developed in Paris. The 20th century saw efforts to reunify the various institutions that had emerged from the historical University of Paris. In 2019, a major merger took place, leading to the establishment of the Université de Paris as a comprehensive research university. The merger aimed to combine the strengths of the various institutions and enhance collaboration across disciplines.
